Community Based Eye Care Workers

The community based eye care screening programme was designed by Jonga Trust to train unemployed disadvantaged youth to do vision screening at the community level.  The programme allows for the early and immediate detection of visual impairment at the community level.

The benefit of early awareness of visual impairment allows the client to immediately seek and receive remedial medical intervention to prevent progression to severe visual impairment

The program also benefits the community based eye care worker (CBECW) in that they receive formal training in computer literacy and office administration skills allowing for skills upliftment which enables them to be career pathed in the future.
