Lions and Jonga Trust Community Based Eye Care Workers were invited by the Department of Health, Western Cape to do Eye Screening recently at the International Nurses day held in the Cape Town International Convention Centre. The testing attracted a lot of attention with the Nurses anxious to have their eyes screened.

Eye screenings carried out:  127

Refractions needed:              41

Refractive error amongst those nurses screened was 32.3%.  This is an alarmingly high number for nurses considering they are working in the health sector rendering nursing care, treating clients and dispensing medication.
